Latest advancement in FloShield™ system features innovative Flo-X laparoscopic cleaning agent to take laparoscopic visualization to the next level

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Minimally Invasive Devices, Inc. (MID) announced today the early market release of its new product, FloShield PLUS, utilizing the novel Flo-X laparoscopic cleaning agent, which allows for active in situ cleaning of the end of the laparoscope without removal from the abdominal cavity.

Flo-X is the latest advancement in MID's FloShield laparoscopic visualization system. In the first 19 FloShield PLUS cases utilizing the Flo-X, any required lens cleanings were performed rapidly within the abdominal cavity without removing the laparoscope from the patient.

"Modern HD optics can only deliver the highest quality images if the distal optics of the laparoscope are free of debris," says Wayne Poll, M.D, FloShield inventor and CEO of MID.  

MID is optimistic that combining its patent-protected "air vortex" technology, which continuously de-fogs the lens and pushes away most debris, with the Flo-X wash and its novel delivery system, will produce continuous and uninterrupted laparoscopic vision during surgery.  Previously, it was necessary for surgeons to remove the lens as often as 10-12 times per hour to clean the end of the laparoscope.

The company anticipates a full market release of FloShield PLUS including the Flo-X laparoscopic cleaning agent during the first quarter of 2012.
