MINNEAPOLIS, June 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Estevan Soto, a junior at Moorestown High School, obliterated the existing national records at USA Weightlifting's Youth National Championships with lifts that were nearly double the previous marks. Enroute to winning the title in the 110 pound weight class, Soto's lifts of 165 pounds in the snatch and 194 pounds in the clean and jerk produced a combined total of 359 pounds vs. the then existing record of 205 pounds.
Soto's performance likely catapulted him onto the Youth Pan Am Team that will represent the USA in competition in Mexico in September. Final appointment to the team is awaiting drug testing results of all competitors by the US Anti Doping Agency.
During the school year, Soto represents Moorestown High as a wrestler and member of the school's track team. He is coached and trains at the Moorestown Weightlifting Club and participates in the club's Community Olympic Development Program, one of only eleven in the country administered by the US Olympic Committee.
