Nestle Announces Voluntary Recall; Affects Frozen BUITONI® Spinach & Portobello Mushroom All Natural Ravioli; Due to Mislabeling and Undeclared Allergen

SOLON, Ohio, Oct. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nestle Prepared Foods Company, doing business as Buitoni North America, is initiating a voluntary recall of 323 cases of BUITONI® Spinach & Portobello Mushroom All Natural Ravioli with UPC code 24842-99186. It is possible that this product may instead contain a variety of BUITONI ravioli containing Shrimp and Lobster. The affected product is packaged in an 18 oz. bag marked with a production code of 225451757, has a "best before" date of OCT 2013 and can be found in the freezer case only at Target retail locations throughout the U.S. (This item is sold exclusively at Target; all 323 cases were shipped only to Target stores.)  Today, one consumer in Minnesota who purchased the mislabeled product alerted Nestle to this issue. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported.  Nestle issued this voluntary recall of the entire production run to ensure the safety of consumers.

Because the mislabeled product potentially could contain shrimp and lobster, and because these ingredients are allergens, Nestle is strongly advising consumers who are allergic to shellfish and who have purchased the recalled product not to consume it to avoid the possibility of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. Nestle asks consumers to contact us for a full refund by calling Nestle Consumer Services (8 am to 8 pm, ET, Monday through Friday) directly at 800-392-3057.  Consumers who may have purchased the recalled product at their local Target store should look for the manufacturing code on the right side panel of the bag. The manufacturing code of the recalled product is 225451757. No other BUITONI products are impacted by this recall.

The following product, sold only through U.S. retailer Target, is subject to the recall:

• 18 oz. (510g) bags of frozen BUITONI Spinach & Portobello Mushroom All Natural Ravioli, with UPC code 24842-99186 and production code 225451757 (located on the right side panel of the package).  The "best before" date is OCT 2013. Please note this is a frozen pasta only item (no sauce) and is sold in a stand-up bag, not a box.
• These bagged items are packed in shipping cases marked BUITONI Spinach & Portobello Mushroom All Natural Ravioli. Each case contains 4 bags and cases carry this code: 225451757.
