New Axxia Communication Processor From LSI Features Asymmetric Multicore Architecture and Breakthrough Performance

MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today introduced the Axxia™ Communication Processor family designed for wireless infrastructure applications. Featuring the groundbreaking LSI™ Virtual Pipeline™ message-passing technology, Axxia Communication Processors will provide users with faster, deterministic performance for demanding wireless applications, including video streaming, web browsing and high-quality digital voice.

Axxia Communication Processors are capable of managing huge volumes of wireless traffic with low latency and no load on the CPU complex. The first member of the Axxia Communication Processor family, the ACP3448 processor, features four powerful PowerPC™ 476FP processor cores with a large 512KB L2 cache per core, 4 MB of system cache, integrated DDRIII memory controllers, and a wide array of intelligent offload engines, including industry-proven packet classification, traffic management, security processing and deep packet inspection. The on-chip processing elements are tied together using the new LSI Virtual Pipeline technology.

An LSI exclusive, Virtual Pipeline technology gives network operators the tools to manage traffic congestion in real time, improving response time and quality of service with minimal CPU utilization. Turn-key Application Development Kit (ADK) modules, application programming interfaces (API) and software modules are provided to enable users to rapidly develop software for wireless applications.
