New Income Tax Guide Available for Rideshare Drivers
How to prepare tax returns for Uber, Lyft, Door Dash, or other contract driving income
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., March 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- 3rd Millennium Tax, LLC, has published "Income Tax Guide for Rideshare and Contract Delivery Drivers," the first handbook to offer a comprehensive, nuts and bolts overview of the tax issues facing rideshare and contract delivery drivers.
"Every year, there's a lot of confusion within the rideshare community about what expenses can be deducted on a tax return," said the book's author, John C. White.
"There are a lot of important decisions that have to be made at tax time, and some will affect the tax returns of a driver for years to come," he said. For example, should a driver claim Actual Car Expenses, or use an alternate Standard Mileage Rate that the law offers? Making an informed decision on this issue alone, he said, is absolutely critical, and can have long-term consequences.
The guide explains, in plain language, more than 60 different expenses that rideshare and contract delivery drivers might incur in the course of business. The author points out which of these expenses are deductible, how much of each expense can be deducted, and where to claim each expense, if it is deductible.
The guide also includes sections on tax credits related to rideshare and contract delivery, tips on preparing Schedules C and SE, and suggestions for business record-keeping.
