New reSET (Social Enterprise Trust) Manager Named
FARMINGTON, Conn., July 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Mary Jo Keating has been named Manager of Planning and Marketing for reSET (Social Enterprise Trust), headquartered in Farmington, CT. reSET is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting, preserving and protecting Social Enterprise and serves as the resource for the CT Social Enterprise Network, whose members are committed to making Connecticut a hub of social enterprise. Social enterprise ventures -- organizations which use market forces to achieve public good -- may have different missions, but share common principles, including putting people and purpose before profit.
A recent graduate of the UConn Encore! Hartford program to transition corporate executives to the nonprofit world, Mary Jo has an extensive background in communications and marketing for companies in the transportation, energy, chemical, agricultural and food industries.
reSET was founded by Kate Emery, the founder and CEO of Walker Systems Support, an IT and web services firm in Farmington. The second largest computer consulting firm in the Hartford area, Walker has been nominated twice to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing small businesses in America. In 2007, Kate restructured Walker as a Social Enterprise, committing to dividing any profits distributed by Walker equally between employees, the community, and shareholders.
reSET held a highly-successful kick-off event on June 2 at the Hartford Club, to which over 250 participants from the business, academic and nonprofit sectors learned about social enterprise from Newman's Own, Criterion Ventures and Walker Systems Support.
Most recent developments include the formation of reSET Action Teams to examine five key areas of importance to the progress of Social Entrepreneurship in Connecticut: legislative, awareness, financial, education and incubator.
