New Year's Resolutions Approach Midyear Mark
Gut Check: Growing Focus on Digestive Connection to Overall Health
SAN BRUNO, Calif., June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As the population marches toward the middle of the year, perhaps a few take a glance backward at their New Year's resolutions. It's no surprise that according to a recent survey by Distill Research, health and well-being ranked as the most prevalent goal. However, what may be less anticipated, is that almost a third of those focused on health are putting their digestive health first as a priority this year.
"As producers of yeast-based Florastor® since 1953, we are encouraged by the results of the Distill Research study," said Marc Rohman, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Biocodex North America. "For years we've espoused the positive impact a well-balanced digestive system can have on a person's overall wellness. Consumers are realizing the holistic connection our digestive systems have on our immunity."
A Note About Methodology
This survey was conducted online within the United States by Distill Research on behalf of Florastor from March 14 through March 25, 2014 among 523 U.S. adults ages 18 and older. While the sample was collected to mirror the age, gender and regional proportions of the U.S. population according to the U.S. Census, this online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
Those who are focusing on their digestive health are planning to do it in a variety of ways:
- 88% plan to eat more healthful foods.
- 84% plan to drink more water.
- 51% plan to include more fiber in their diet.
- 41% plan to start eating, or eating more of, foods rich in probiotics.
- 29% plan to start taking, or taking more of, a probiotic supplement.
Summer Travel Digestion Disruption: Maintain Digestive Health
The study also shows how disruptive travel can be, and the strategies that some travelers implement to ensure a smooth transition. In fact, of the American adults surveyed:
- 45% of travelers have experienced digestive issues while traveling.
- 27% have experienced dehydration.
Unlike bacterial-based probiotics like yogurt, yeast-based Florastor doesn't need refrigeration, making it a convenient holiday travel companion.
Why Florastor Is Different
Taking Florastor to support the body's immune system before leaving for a trip will go a long way. Typical travelers' illnesses are gastrointestinal and caused by unpeeled fruits and vegetables and undercooked meats.
Florastor also contains 250 mg of Saccharomyces boulardii lyo, found naturally on the skin of the tropical fruits lychee and mangosteen—and is not compromised when using antibiotics.+1 Florastor is an all-natural, vegetarian and gluten-free capsule. Florastor®Kids comes in a powder packet and is appropriate for children two months and older.+2 The powder contains 250 mg of the same probiotic yeast strain as Florastor and can be dissolved in most drinks or soft foods.
