NEW YORK, April 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- ABC News is reporting on another deadly boat crash at New York's Tappan Zee Bridge (Search to Resume For 3rd Crew Member in Hudson River Tugboat Crash that Killed 2 Others, March 14, 2016). A 90-foot long boat named Specialist was escorting a crane from Albany to Jersey City when it crashed into a stationary construction barge in the Hudson River where the new Tappan Zee Bridge is being built. The barge had three men on board, two of whom have been found dead, and one of whom remains missing. 29-year-old Timothy Conklin's body was found in the vessel, and 62-year-old Paul Amon was also killed. 56-year-old Harry Hernandez remains missing.
According to the report there was a previous accident at the same location in 2013 that killed a bride-to-be and a best man two weeks before the wedding. The victims' families in that crash alleged that the barge was not visible at the time due to inadequate lighting. Now, similar questions are arising as to whether or not the barge was sufficiently lit. For his part, Governor Cuomo has stated that the barge was lit and that radio transmissions showed that the men saw the barge but had driven too close. Cuomo also stated that 21 men had been working at the site, but none were injured.
"First, our hearts go out to the friends and families of the deceased," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "No one expects their loved one to die while at work, and we can only imagine the heartbreak those affected must be feeling. It must be stated that it is a bit disconcerting that this deadly accident took place at the same exact location of one from just a few years ago. It is our sincere hope that this was a genuine accident that that the barge was sufficiently lit, however, on the surface the circumstances are a bit alarming even if ultimately benign."
