NewVa Capital Partners, a Fund Created to Spur Economic Development in Southwest Virginia, is Concluded
RADFORD, Va., Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Third Security, LLC, a venture capital and investment management firm wholly-owned by Randal J. Kirk, announced today NewVa Capital Partners, LP, a regional investment partnership that it managed, has concluded and is in the process of making a final distribution to its partners.
Over the past ten years, NewVa Capital Partners, LP, achieved its goal of spurring economic development in southwest Virginia through a variety of investments, including Synchrony, Inc., a technology development company that was sold to Dresser-Rand Group in January 2012, and an early investment in Intrexon (NYSE: XON), a leader in synthetic biology that completed its initial public offering in August 2013.
Doit Koppler, Managing Director and Treasurer of Third Security, commented, "In order to promote economic development in southwest Virginia, rather than owning a substantial majority of the fund as is typical for Mr. Kirk and his affiliates, we partnered with the Virginia Tech Foundation and Carilion Clinic as majority limited partners to create this fund. We are proud to have played a role in supporting and expanding the economy in southwest Virginia through NewVa's investments."
