Ossia and KDDI Team Up to Jumpstart The Wireless Power Technology Revolution

Collaborative Efforts of Major Japanese Telecom and Ossia Showcased at CES

22 Dec, 2015, 12:03 ET from Ossia, Inc.

BELLEVUE, Wash., Dec. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ossia, Inc. the company behind the Cota® remote wireless charging technology, today announced that it has partnered with KDDI, a major Japanese telecommunications company with 40 million customers, to deliver the benefits of remote wireless power technology. KDDI quickly recognized Cota's potential and became an early investor in Ossia via the KDDI Open Innovation Fund. Since then, KDDI has worked closely with Ossia to engineer new products and solutions that will help usher in the wireless power technology revolution. The companies' collaborative development efforts will be showcased at the CES 2016 event in Las Vegas.

Cota technology was selected as a CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree in the "Tech for a Better World" product category. With this groundbreaking technology, Ossia is redefining wireless power by safely delivering targeted energy to automatically recharge devices. The Cota transmitter serves as a hub, providing power and data to smaller devices such as smartphones, smart locks, remote controls and more. By leveraging Cota technology, forward-thinking companies like KDDI are well-positioned to lead the way in their markets as the Internet of Things transforms homes and offices worldwide.

"As the popularization of the IoT has created opportunities for supplying power to a variety of compact devices, we have conducted joint development with Ossia as a promising startup company with whom we can expect global development of business," said Makoto Takahashi, Senior Managing Executive Officer / Representative Director at KDDI. "At this time, through this alliance with such an innovative partner, KDDI hopes to promote open innovation and create new businesses."

What makes Cota technology unique is that it is capable of charging mobile and battery-powered devices automatically, without users plugging them in or placing them on a charging pad. About the size of a small PC tower, Cota is designed to use patented smart antenna technology to safely deliver targeted energy to devices at a distance. That means the devices are always powered up and ready to use. The technology functions similarly to how WiFi transmitters deliver data to devices. Cota safely transmits energy around corners and over obstacles without requiring a direct line of sight, similarly to how WiFi routers push data to devices.

"The ability to transmit data wirelessly was the first step in the mobile revolution," said Hatem Zeine, founder and CEO of Ossia and creator of Cota technology. "Freeing people from reliance on mobile device chargers is the next step, and we're proud to collaborate with industry innovators like KDDI to bring new products to market that will change the way people live, work, communicate and access entertainment."

Ossia is currently exploring many commercial and consumer applications for its wireless charging technology and working with a number of investors and product developers. To find out more, please visit www.ossia.com
