Revised EFQM Model to Help Increase Europe's Competitiveness

BRUSSELS, October 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Endorsed by Van Rompuy, President of the European Council

EFQM launches a revised business model to help European organisations improve sustainable performance and competitiveness. The revision is based on inputs from hundreds of management professionals throughout Europe gathered over the last 3 years. The new dimensions included in the EFQM Excellence Model are speed, agility, flexibility and entrepreneurship.

"All European organisations, both in the public and private sectors, are facing new challenges.  The increasing pressure to compete on a global stage with limited resources means we all have to work together to secure our future prosperity, and that of generations to come", explains Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council. "The EFQM Excellence Model provides a framework that encourages cooperation, collaboration and innovation that we will need to ensure this goal is achieved", he continues.

The need for an adapted model is explained by Marc Amblard, CEO of EFQM: "The EFQM Excellence Model has been reviewed to ensure it reflects the world we operate in. It encourages organisations to move from rigid corporate structures to more agile ones that are better suited to the rigours of today's global economic environment. For instance, the revised Model spurs organisations to develop an entrepreneurial culture. Furthermore, there's a greater focus on organisational development, not just internally but throughout the entire value chain. "

The EFQM Excellence Model is designed by organisations for organisations. Currently, 30.000 companies in Europe use this management framework.

About EFQM Excellence Model

The EFQM Excellence Model is a management framework to drive continuous improvement.  It is a tool that brings together all the different components of a company's management system (i.e. leadership, HR, Sustainability, customer results partnerships, etc.), giving an overview of current strengths and opportunities to grow.  Founded in 1988, the Model was developed and is still maintained by leading European organisations, such as the Bosch Group, BMW, Grundfos and Ricoh.

About EFQM

EFQM provides training, assessment tools and recognition to help organisations implement the Model. The main focus of EFQMs activities is the gathering of best practices and integrating those into the portfolio as well as the further development of the model. EFQM, a not-for-profit membership Foundation, aims to share what works, through case studies, online seminars, working groups, conferences and thematic events. Core of the model is a network of world-class organisations and their leaders who share passion for business excellence.
