BOSTON, Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Suffolk University Law School, in partnership with Integreon, a leading global provider of legal process outsourcing services, announced today the launch of a new initiative: the Client Services Innovation Program. The program offers Suffolk Law students, as well as a limited number of undergraduate students, a paid opportunity to gain valuable work experience delivering innovative legal services to corporate clients under the supervision of Integreon's legal experts.

Students accepted into the program will receive training and the opportunity to work on legal outsourcing engagements encompassing a broad range of disciplines. Examples include electronic discovery and managed document review; legal research and legislative tracking; due diligence for mergers and acquisitions; contract review and drafting; compliance program support; and legal operations support in hot areas like legal spend analytics and legal process re-engineering. The experience will be invaluable in helping prepare graduates to enter the workforce with a competitive advantage.

The program is housed in a dedicated and secure on-campus 30-seat delivery center with state-of-the-art training facilities.

Students participating in the program will gain:

  • Experience delivering legal services to corporate clients, while working individually and collaboratively in teams
  • Specialized training on cutting edge topics, such as legal data analytics, information governance, and the ethics of legal process outsourcing
  • Practical training in specific legal outsourcing service areas
  • Eligibility for internships at any of Integreon's delivery centers across the globe

Corporate clients participating in the program will gain:

  • Access to innovative, high quality legal outsourcing services
  • An opportunity to proactively contribute to training the next generation of lawyers
  • A more cost effective, Boston-based alternative to traditional legal services providers
  • The opportunity to benefit from the collaborative learning and training ongoing in the program
  • Access to Suffolk Law School's considerable brain trust, including the work of its Institute on Law Practice Technology and Innovation

"Suffolk Law has been at the forefront of innovation in legal education for quite some time, both in terms of its focus on practical training and attention to legal services delivery in an evolving legal marketplace. The school was the obvious choice for Integreon in our search for a partner for this program," said Mark Ross, Global Head, Legal Process Outsourcing at Integreon. "Our partnership with Suffolk offers our clients yet another compelling legal service delivery model here in the U.S., and one which also helps train the next generation of lawyers."

"The program fosters an environment that not only emphasizes project management, teamwork and legal operations efficiency, but also instills transformative and innovative thinking," added Caragh Landry, Global Head, Onshore Managed Review at Integreon. "There is growing market demand for this kind of talent, and we're working with Suffolk to fill that need."

Suffolk University Law School Dean, Andrew Perlman, stated, "We're thrilled about this partnership with Integreon and, by extension, the involvement of their current and future corporate clients. Suffolk Law is committed to ensure that its graduates have the skills necessary to thrive in the 21st century, and this partnership will provide our students with an invaluable opportunity to develop those essential skills."

Leading corporate counsel have been lining up in support of the program, including:

  • Lucy Bassli, Microsoft Assistant General Counsel, who said, "The hands-on experience will serve these students well when seeking employment. Legal services organizations need lawyers with cutting edge skills relevant to the modern legal marketplace. I look forward to working with the students."
  • Martha Mazzone, a Fidelity Investments attorney and leading eDiscovery practitioner, who said, "This innovative collaboration between Integreon, one of the leading legal services providers in the world, and Suffolk, a forward thinking academic institution right here in Boston, demonstrates that the tide has turned in our profession, and in our preparation of lawyers to serve their clients cost-effectively.  Not only can the program's clients receive top legal services at a reasonable price, but the next generation of lawyers will learn early on how to be pragmatic and business-minded 21st century practitioners."

The launch of the Client Services Innovation Program represents the culmination of almost two years of active engagement between Suffolk and Integreon. Suffolk broke the traditional mold of legal education in 2013 when it established its Institute on Law Practice Technology and Innovation, with Perlman serving as the founding director.  The Institute is governed by an advisory board of legal industry leaders that includes Integreon's Ross.  The Institute's current director, Suffolk Law professor Gabe Teninbaum, assumed the post when Perlman became Dean.  Teninbaum commented that "this partnership is a perfect representation of what the Institute does:  it promotes projects and programs designed to leverage technology and process innovations to improve the practice of law and the delivery of legal services."

While serving as the inaugural director of the Institute, Perlman also created a Legal Technology and Innovation Concentration (akin to an academic major), which teaches students how to leverage technology and innovative methods to deliver legal services successfully in the 21st century.  The students in this concentration will be among the core pool of students expected to receive training in the Client Services Innovation Program.
