LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Business management, tax and audit firm Tanner Mainstain Glynn & Johnson LLP is recognized in Variety's 2016 Business Managers Elite issue.

The Tanner-Mainstain duo joined forces in 1976. What started as a small practice representing a pair of up-and-coming TV writers—Tom Patchett and Jay Tarses— has since grown into an entertainment institution that also represents athletes, novelists and writers, producers, directors, among others. Patchett said, "In 1971, I was half of the Patchett and Tarses performing and writing team, and badly in need of someone to do my taxes, cheap. Today, I am writing largely unsaleable musings, living off investments recommended and guided by TMGJ."
Long-time client and actor Michael Keaton said of the firm's representation, "I've achieved the goal that we established in the beginning – to have the freedom to choose projects because they truly interest me, not for financial reasons."
"In addition to our core business management services, over the years, the firm has diversified by expanding our accounting practice," said Partner Michael Glynn. "We provide specialized tax and accounting services to real estate, hospitality, financial services, film and television production companies, as well as technology and start-up entities."
In terms of its philanthropic pursuits, the firm also participates in and advises multiple nonprofits and charities, including the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Foundation, the Water Buffalo Club and the Arthritis Foundation Pacific Region. "Giving in many ways is a lot easier," said Mainstain. "You write a check and you're done. But serving on a board or other activities in a charity are much more rewarding."
Clients value that the firm has younger partners and professionals as well, and that it combines extensive experience with progressive tools for tracking and protecting client investments, reported Variety. The firm has a mostly paperless workflow, with e-signed tax returns and cash flow statements viewable on a smartphone.
Although many of the firm's clients have been able to retire at a relatively young age thanks to expert financial planning and advice, Tanner and Mainstain have no plans of hanging it up anytime in the near future.
