Texas billionaire Mark Cuban to Impact Pediatric Health during SXSW
AUSTIN, Texas, March 5, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Shark Tank television show celebrity Mark Cuban will be emceeing Impact Pediatric Health at 9:30 AM on March 16, 2015 at the Hilton Austin Hotel during SXSW Interactive. The event is hosted by the nation's four leading pediatric institutions, and will showcase twelve of the world's best pediatric health innovators. The presenting companies will be pitching "shark tank" style to event judges that include investors from venture funds and executives from the nation's biggest and best children's hospitals.
The participating institutions—Boston Children's, Cincinnati Children's, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Texas Children's—are looking for the most innovative digital health and medtech startups that are solving problems that keep kids healthy. Internet pioneer, billionaire, angel investor, Dallas Mavericks NBA team owner, Shark Tank member, and father of three Mark Cuban is supporting the initiative as emcee.
The event has had broad national support from an advisory counsel that includes notable organizations such as TEDMED, MIT's Hacking Medicine, Johnson and Johnson's J-Labs, and many others.
Digital health and medtech companies from all over the nation and from as far away as Israel will be presenting at the event. Health innovations represented include:
- Remote monitoring
- Mental health
- Prematurity
- Patient safety
- Health gamification
- Population health management
Accounting for roughly 25 percent of the U.S. population, the pediatric market offers significant potential for new companies and products. "The pediatric market is hungry for innovations," says Brian Lang, Energizing Health, the Houston based organization that is producing the event. "We're focused on treating sick kids and helping them get well, and keeping kids healthy and safe day-to-day and throughout their life," he added.
"Kids are more than our future, they are our 'now'," Lang stated. "Kids are some of our highest users and early adopters of technology. With the increase in big data, wearables and global connectivity, it's imperative that we capitalize on these trends with the goal of improving children's health."
The total pediatric healthcare market in the U.S. is estimated at $186 billion and spending on children's health has grown nearly 12 percent since 2007.
