Texas Family to Travel the Caribbean in Search of a New Home
AUSTIN, Texas, March 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A family from Austin, Texas will soon set off on an unforgettable Caribbean voyage in hopes of finding a new home. Two children, two parents and one service dog will live aboard Miss Lone Star, a thirty-seven foot twin-engine boat that will depart from Houston in July. They have recently started a travel blog that will detail their journey and the troubles that surely await them on the open seas. The blog will detail their travels together with professional photography of the Caribbean and Central American nations.

The family is transitioning into a minimalist existence, in stark contrast to their lives thus far. The crew has never slept on a boat for more than a week but somehow the concept of selling all of their things and heading to parts unknown made perfect sense in today's overcomplicated world. They chose the simple life while broadening their learning through new cultural experiences.
The kids, ages three and five, will be home-schooled aboard the boat when they are not swabbing the decks. Robb and Aubrey Hamic are pursuing education degrees while tending to the countless new tasks that await them aboard. Mrs. Hamic is a professional photographer who looks to broaden her career by capturing images of undisturbed beaches and wildlife. Mr. Hamic is a 100% service disabled US Army Veteran who is a retired law enforcement/military trainer. He is in training and will become a dive master soon. They will utilize their experience to make the trip a success and keep the boat from sinking.
Mr. Hamic explains that there are good opportunities for the family through hands on learning and detaching from the television and social media. He believes that his retirement pension will go farther in the Caribbean, as opposed to paying a large sum of money to remain in a big city neighborhood. "Our safety and security is a big concern for me and I feel that my training and experience will benefit us in our travels," Mr. Hamic says. He traveled extensively teaching his craft throughout the Middle East.
"The amount of things that we accumulated over the years really surprised me," says Aubrey Hamic. "We don't live extravagantly but we have spent many thousands of dollars on things we don't really need."
Mrs. Hamic was initially hesitant to the idea of moving aboard the boat but warmed up to the idea after their daughter attended kindergarten this year. She sees the increase of school violence/shootings and bullying as an obstacle that must be overcome. She feels confident that they made a good choice and the kids will be much better off by having a more traditional family life aboard the boat.
