The Brown Crayon Project Kicks Off Crowdfunding Round to Produce Certified-Organic Baby Care Products for Children of Color
NEW YORK, Feb. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Selma Idris, the founder of The Brown Crayon Project, officially launched a crowdfunding campaign to produce the first certified-organic, chemist-formulated line of hair and skincare products for babies, toddlers, and children of the diaspora. The company believes in a holistic approach to healthy baby care utilizing sound science, quality, natural ingredients, Earth-conscious business practices, strict manufacturing standards, and transparent labeling.
Launching February 29 the 30-day Kickstarter campaign aims to raise $25K by allowing backers to pre-order the certified-organic line of hair and skin cleansers, moisturizers, and oils designed as a complete healthy hair and skincare system to provide parents and caregivers with quality, natural, and safe solutions. At the conclusion of the campaign, products will continue to be available for pre-order on http://thebrowncrayonproject.com. The company will begin shipping in late summer 2016.
Selma Idris, a Sudanese-American mother of two, created the product line because she was determined to include children of the diaspora in the global conversations around physical and emotional health. "There are currently no certified-organic baby care brands on the market made with kids like mine in mind. I created my first products out of necessity after a couple of 'What did you do to the baby's hair?' mishaps. My mother, who was with me for the birth of both of my sons, and I started making what we needed using old North and East African family beauty recipes at home. But our ingredients were limited and I wanted the process and ingredients to be clean and safe and the results to be consistent."
Based in Brooklyn, New York, with contributors in Africa, the Brown Crayon Project plans community engagement and media campaigns to develop an interactive dialogue with the global diaspora about the holistic health and wellbeing of children of color.
