The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) Partners with Zipcar to Offer a Convenient and Economical Transportation Option

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) launched a new partnership with Zipcar Inc., providing the campus with access to the world's leading car-sharing service. The cost-effective and convenient transportation option is now available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all students, staff, and faculty ages 18 and up and to community members 21 years and older.

Zipcar is an environmentally friendly transportation alternative that supports UNCG's goal of easing congestion on campus, lowering costs and decreasing the demand for parking. Every Zipcar takes 15 to 20 privately owned vehicles off the road. Gas, 180 miles per day, insurance, reserved parking spots and roadside assistance are included in the hourly and daily Zipcar rates. Cars can be reserved for as short as an hour or for up to four days. Rates on all UNCG vehicles start as low as $8 per hour and $66 per day (24 hours).

UNCG students, staff, faculty and community members can become Zipsters by visiting www.zipcar.com/uncg.  The annual membership fee for anyone affiliated with UNCG is only $35 and UNCG applicants receive $35 worth of free driving credit that applies toward their first month of driving. Free annual memberships will be offered to Departments.

"Zipcar provides a new level of freedom to our students, staff, and faculty, allowing access to cars as they need them, without the hassles of ownership."

Zipcars are self service, easily reserved and accessed 24 hours a day. Four Zipcars are located in convenient, high demand areas on campus - two on Gray Drive and two on College Avenue. Also, Zipsters can download Zipcar's fun and functional iPhone app to book a Zipcar, honk its horn to locate it and unlock the doors remotely.

Zipcar has established partnerships with more than 200 universities, including University of Alabama, UCLA, and Vanderbilt. Zipcar utilizes a network of local vendors to service and clean its fleet.
