The Timken Foundation of Canton came into existence in 1934 as a result of a conclusion by Henry H. Timken, Sr., that he wanted to give back to the communities from which his wealth had been generated. Because his wealth was generated largely from the success of The Timken Company, he decided that a portion of his income from Timken Company stock should flow back to the communities in which the Company's earnings were generated. Henry proposed the concept of a charitable institution to his sisters, Mrs. Amelia Bridges and Mrs. Cora Burnett, who were also shareholders of The Timken Company. Through an initial grant of personal funds by Henry and his sisters, the Timken Foundation of Canton was founded. Since that time, other family members have contributed to the growth of the Foundation.
The Timken Foundation of Canton is a private, charitable, family foundation. Since 1934, the Timken Foundation has disbursed over $300 million in grants, primarily in communities in which The Timken Company has operations.
