Top Investment Advisory Firms In Denver Announce Merger

DENVER, Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wood Investment Counsel, LLC and Obermeyer Asset Management Company announce their merger today. The combined firm will do business as Obermeyer Wood Investment Counsel, LLLP with offices in Denver and Aspen. The merger will place Obermeyer Wood among the top 10 investment advisory firms in Denver with approximately $1.7 billion in managed assets.

Wally Obermeyer, founder of Obermeyer Asset Management Company, will serve as co-chairman and president for the new entity with George Wood, founder of Wood Investment Counsel, as co-chairman. The combined organization will include 17 employees with 11 investment professionals among the two offices and a total of 600 family relationships.

Wally is the son of Klaus Obermeyer founder of Sport Obermeyer, Ltd.  Prior to founding Obermeyer Asset Management, Obermeyer was regional vice president of Heritage Trust and Asset Management. He has a broad range of business and financial experience including managing the family's ski apparel business and founding a hydroelectric generation company. Obermeyer earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA, cum laude, from Harvard College. He has been named seven times to Barron's Magazine's "Top 100 Independent Financial Advisors."

Wood Investment Counsel, LLC was founded by George Wood in 1982 to provide independent investment management. Wood began his investment career in 1969 as an investment analyst with Stein Roe & Farnham, a leading investment advisory firm in Chicago, and later became a partner of the firm.
