Toronto Serial Entrepreneur Debuts New "JWLS" Watch Collection That Funds Cystic Fibrosis Research

TORONTO, Aug. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- With the aim of providing greater funding to medical research on Cystic Fibrosis, Emily Lyons – the young Toronto-based serial entrepreneur who already has 3 successful companies to her name – has just launched a new watch brand which directly donates a portion of all profits to medical institutions seeking to treat and cure cystic fibrosis.

Cystic fibrosis is a highly lethal genetic disease which affects thousands of Canadian children. It is also the disease which, in 2011, took the life of Emily Lyons' sister, Julia Marlane Lyons. Julia Lyons' nickname given to her by friends and family – "Jewels" – is what inspired Emily Lyons to call the new watch brand "JWLS."

In tandem with the launch of the JWLS brand, Emily Lyons is also creating a charity, the Julia Lyons Foundation. The purpose of this foundation is to help with the housing needs of families who have a child in the hospital of another, far-from-home city. Emily recalls the times her family had to stay at a Ronald McDonald house while her sister Julia was in the hospital for treatment. "We had tough times," Emily says. "It's hard enough when you have a dearly-loved family member in the hospital, but when you also have to endure through financial stresses – it can get pretty hard."

Like the JWLS watch brand, the Julia Lyons Foundation will also support research on cystic fibrosis.
