tweetTV Receives $750,000 in Seed Funding to Power its Real-Time Social TV Guide
AUSTIN, Texas, March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- tweetTV (http://www.tweet.tv), the real-time social TV guide that groups and enhances TV-based conversations happening on Twitter, has raised $750,000 from angel investor Joe Kalfa. tweetTV will use the funds to build and release mobile applications, hire talent, make enhancements to its proprietary algorithms, and power its upcoming partner and social rewards programs.
tweetTV's unique social TV guide updates every minute to show real-time TV watching trends along with localized channel numbers for the user's TV provider. Its real-time search feature enables users to find where the social buzz is among currently airing TV programs based on any combination of genres and networks. And, its cloud-based, embeddable "tweet rooms" go beyond generic hashtags to curate Twitter-based conversations happening around TV programs, adding enhancements such as filters, editorial content, fan polls, and multi-user video chats to the tweet-based TV conversations.
Founder/CEO Bradley Markham says, "I couldn't be more excited about the future of tweetTV. Not all investors or investments are created equally, and in Mr. Kalfa, we found the perfect seed-stage investor who shares tweetTV's vision to create a platform for meaningful social TV conversations and TV discovery tools that re-invent the TV guide."
Says Kalfa, "I strongly believe in tweetTV's vision for becoming the de-facto way for socially active TV viewers users to engage with each other while watching TV."
The tweetTV project was started by former Googler Bradley Markham in 2009 and, until now, has been funded exclusively by Markham as it built out a robust backend and limited beta website that was released to the public in November 2011. Markham says, "We set out in 2009 to give context to the TV-related trends on Twitter, noticing that we could curate and group together TV-related tweets into program-specific conversations and make them filterable, while also showing users how the TV programs on their TVs provider rank in social popularity in real-time."
tweetTV is also among the first startups to be accepted into the Wahooly social startup accelerator program, whereby 5000 social influencers with Klout scores in the 90th percentile will aggressively promote tweetTV beginning later this spring. tweetTV is advised by Joshua Baer (OtherInbox, Capital Factory).
