United States University Announces Name Change From InterAmerican College
New Name Reflects Expansion of Academic Programs and Enrollment Growth. Tradition of Excellence in Higher Education Continues.
NATIONAL CITY, Calif., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- United States University has changed its name from InterAmerican College. The name change has been approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is effective immediately.
"The change of name from a college to a university accurately describes our degree level as we take our academic programs to the next level," said Dr. Yoram Neumman, the president and chief executive officer of United States University. "We recently added a master degree program in Nursing and we have more master degree programs in development. Master and doctorate level programs are typically offered at universities. We will continue to expand our high quality and student-centered educational programs to the benefit of our targeted population."
The name change also represents the school's commitment to becoming a leading educational institution emphasizing quality, diversity, and expanded educational opportunities. "We have a unique mission," said Dr. Neumman. "Most of our students are either immigrants or their first-generation offspring from underserved groups, with a special emphasis on Hispanic communities in Southern California. We aim at bringing them into higher education, facilitating their integration into the U.S. society (the name United States University symbolizes this facet), and improving their economic condition. We are convinced that our graduates will have a strong positive impact on the region as well as on the entire nation."
While the name and the school's website (http://www.usuniversity.edu) have changed, the core values remain. Tom Finaly, the chief operating officer of United States University said, "Our class sizes stay small, tuition remains affordable, and we continue to give personal attention to every student."
While many universities and colleges are cutting enrollment and class offerings, United States University is experiencing unprecedented growth. Finaly said enrollment has increased by 40 percent in the last six months and the class schedule has increased accordingly.
