VanDyke Software Launches Beta Version of SecureCRT® for Mac OS X New release provides network administrators with rock-solid secure terminal emulation on the Mac platform
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to growing demand from long-term customers for a fully-featured terminal client on the Mac OS, VanDyke Software today announced its launch of the beta version of the company's SecureCRT for Mac OS X.
Three trends evolving over several years drove VanDyke's development of SecureCRT for Mac OS X. According to a survey commissioned by VanDyke Software and executed by Amplitude Research, network administrators ranked "securing remote access" their top priority for four years running (since 2006). Meanwhile, in 2008, Yankee Group released findings that 80% of senior IT execs surveyed had Macs in their organization, increasing from 47% in 2006. Additionally, since 2005, inquiries from network administrators about a secure terminal emulator for Macs had doubled each year.
Jeff P. Van Dyke, president and founder of VanDyke Software, said, "Since 1995, we have focused on providing customers with solid, reliable software that meets their needs, first with CRT and then SecureCRT. SecureCRT consistently receives high marks from our customers. One of our alpha testers for this release said the stability, user interface, and superior customer support made SecureCRT one of the best purchases he ever made. One of my primary objectives in developing SecureCRT for Mac OS X was to deliver the same high standards of reliability and performance."
According to alpha tester Chris Freeman, a network architect with Verizon Enterprise, "This application, even in its infancy is by far the best terminal application for Mac we've found. SecureCRT is the standard for networking professionals and anyone who made the jump to the Mac, as our group did, will certainly benefit from this product."
VanDyke Software's SecureCRT is a terminal client that helps network administrators manage secure remote access and securely "tunnel" e-mail, web, and corporate application data. SecureCRT helps network administrators to effectively access and manage legacy applications, configure routers, maintain web servers, and perform systems maintenance.
John Cassell, a product support engineer, who tested the alpha version of SecureCRT for Mac OS X said, "I now use SecureCRT to manage my local system using the command shell option. I run SecureCRT on both my Mac primary machine and Windows Vista machine – the interface is the same, so you can forget what version you are working on."
According to Maureen Jett, product director for SecureCRT, key capabilities now available in SecureCRT for Mac OS X include:
- Providing secure access to business applications on UNIX, Linux, or VMS
- Allowing the configuration, management, and customization of multiple sessions – from 1 to 5,000+ sessions
- Enabling access to a full array of network devices from one client
- Automation of repetitive tasks plus ability to leverage high-productivity user-interface
