In order to participate in the December 20, 2012 auditions, contestants had to register to take a free Verizon Wireless Amigos del Tiempo workshop to learn how to use 4G LTE-enabled tablets to videotape and submit their weather reports. WXTV Univision 41 judges selected 25 finalists out of the total number of participants who auditioned that day. To be eligible for the contest, participants had to be aged 18 and older, speak Spanish fluently and live in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. There was no purchase necessary to enter or win.
WXTV Univision 41 finished 2012 as the No. 1 most-watched early local newscast in the country among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, regardless of language, beating all ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and CW local stations.
