This Chinese education program was started in 2004 by the National Committee on US-China Relations, hosted by the China Education Association for International Exchange and for the past three years has been sponsored exclusively by the Yihai Education Group. The students will be in China from July 12th through July 29th.
The program's goal is to foster understanding between the US and China by providing nationally recognized American teenagers with an opportunity to immerse themselves in Chinese education and culture.
While in Beijing the students live with local families and share meals with their contemporaries at the Beijing No. 8 Middle School Yihai Branch. Yihai Education Group has been operating schools in China since 1998 under the leadership of its chairman Linda Wong, a global real estate developer, educator, entrepreneur and philanthropist.
Ms. Wong also pioneered creating senior colleges within her Chinese real estate developments. The American students visited one of these facilities where Chinese seniors taught them calligraphy, Chinese painting, making silk flowers and introduced them to Chinese martial arts. The Yihai Group also arranged for the students to visit historic sites in Beijing, a Dandelion School for the children of migrant workers and an acrobatic performance at the Chaoyang Theater.
"These talented young Americans represent the best of their country and will be its future leaders. This program provides them with a better understanding of the values we embrace in Chinese culture: education and respect for the elderly along with a willingness to foster international cooperation. This experience will provide them with a better insight into China and its people, which we believe will strengthen the bonds between the two countries in the future. Yihai Group is honored to sponsor their visit to China," said Ms. Wong.
In addition to supporting the U.S. China Student Leaders Exchange, the Yihai Education Group has created six schools in China with more than 4,000 students including a kindergarten, primary school, junior and middle school, a training school and adult school. It has also created the new Inter Academy Yihai, a soccer training program for boys and girls in China under the leadership of Argentine soccer star Zanetti, who recently retired from Inter Milan Club, where he participated in two World Cup Games and lead the club to multiple Italian Championships. This program supports President Xi Jinping's vision to make China a world leader in soccer.
Yihai Group has been active in China since 1990 and has four main business units: global real estate development, education, property management and fitness centers and spas. It employs more than 1,600 people. Linda Wong is one of the first generation of Hong Kong real estate developers to enter mainland China, Europe and North America. Her global philanthropy program is embedded in the culture of her company.
