Zhongguancun Launches Innovative Technologies Globally at CES 2010

LAS VEGAS , Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Zhongguancun, China's largest hi-tech zone, today introduced five innovative technologies at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas . The unveiling of the technologies was conducted at a press conference attended by senior executives of the Consumer Electronics Association, representatives from the Zhongguancun Administrative Committee and its hi-tech companies, as well as key professionals interested in the latest technological developments in China .

"The Administrative Committee of Z-Park has worked hard to promote its companies on a global scale, including hosting events such as today. CES 2010 marks the first time a Chinese hi-tech zone will debut its innovations, and we are proud to witness this historical milestone," said Jason Oxman , Consumer Electronics Association Senior Vice President.

As the first and largest hi-tech zone in China , Zhongguancun is home to nearly 20,000 high-tech companies. It attracts local talents to set up labs and offices, as well as multinational corporations, both looking to develop R&D across all sectors and gain footholds in the Chinese market. Fortune 500 companies such as IBM, Intel and Microsoft have R&D centers at Zhongguancun, and so do internationally renowned Chinese enterprises such as Lenovo, Baidu and Sohu.

On March 13, 2009 , the State Council of China officially deemed Zhongguancun the National Innovation Model Park. Zhongguancun's goal in the next ten years is to become a globally recognized technological innovation center. China has recognized the important role of Zhongguancun in creating technology that will put China at the forefront of technological development, and developing innovations that help make China more competitive in the world economy.

During the press conference, Zhongguancun introduced five innovative technologies, including:

    -- Latest BlueSoleil 7.0 by IVT Corporation
    -- Next Generation Text Understanding/Concept Search System by Patentics
    -- Pervasive 3C convergence: IGRS's approach by Intelligent Grouping &
       Resource Sharing protocol (IGRS)
    -- Digital multimedia image processing integrated circuit technologies by
       Vimicro International Corporation
    -- eBook reader by Hanvon Technology Co., Ltd.

Unaffected by current economic conditions, Zhongguancun was able to maintain a 20% growth rate in the second half of 2009. In 2009, Zhongguancun generated US$170 billion in revenues and US$20 billion in exports. Companies such as Vimicro, whose chip solutions have been adopted by Sony, HP, Samsung and Sprint, represent a new and energetic group of Chinese technology companies that are ready to take the center stage in launching products that are "Made in China ."

Seventeen other technology companies are also present at CES this year and are located at South Hall Level 3, 30363, LVCC, CES Convention. CES 2010 runs from January 7-10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada , USA.

About the five innovations launched

The eBook reader by Hanvon is an electronic paper-book which not only allows readers to read, but also integrates handwriting recognition with electromagnetic board input technology allowing users to also write on the device. This leading technology achieves a seamless integration of reading and writing in eBooks. Consumers can access books through two main channels - pre- installed books in the eBook reader (including customized books for a specific industry), and downloading books from http://www.hwebook.cn .

Another new technology was launched by IVT Corporation, a major global supplier of Bluetooth software, which unveiled its latest Mobile Health System. The technology is a complete remote medical monitoring solution that allows medical monitoring from home, achieving speedy rescue in case of emergency. The Mobile Health System was recently launched in China , but the company also plans to export the complete system, including the online platform and device kit.

Vimicro Corporation was founded in 1999 at Zhongguancun by several entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley, with initial support from the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) in China . Vimicro's innovations in parallel data processing and scene-based image processing have developed ultra-low power, high image and video quality and high scene fidelity IC products. Vimicro's chip solutions have been adopted by multi-national companies such as Sony, Samsung, HP, Philips, Fujitsu, Logitech, Lenovo, and ZTE.

IGRS is the leading ISO/IEC 3C Convergence Standard in the world. Formed in July 2003 , the IGRS Information Industry Association is an industry alliance and standards organization that develops 3C interoperability standard-IGRS standard and standard compliant products. The IGRS Standard, a China National 3C-Convergence Industry Standard, enables seamless intelligent grouping, resource sharing and service collaboration among communication, computing and consumer electronic (3C convergence) devices for users at home, office and public areas at anytime and anywhere.
