Zillow Kicks Off National Housing Tour

Zillow's Housing Roadmap to 2016, which kicks off Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C., will crisscross the country to identify and explore top local housing issues in advance of the 2016 presidential election

Jan 12, 2015, 16:30 ET from Zillow, Inc.

SEATTLE, Jan. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Zillow is announcing a national housing tour to deeply explore the housing issues Americans face in their neighborhoods and communities, and how they affect the nation as a whole. "Zillow's Housing Roadmap to 2016," will be a series of local events and conversations around today's most important housing issues.

Zillow will join the critical conversations underway in neighborhoods, in the boardrooms of home builders and real estate brokers, and in city council meeting rooms -- conversations that will influence national housing discussions in the 2016 elections and beyond.

The series will kick off Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C., where Zillow will host a breakfast panel discussion. The conversation will serve as a sounding board for new ideas and common themes as we begin to identify communities tackling key housing issues with creative and innovative solutions.

We want to see how officials in Detroit are combatting urban blight with urban farms, how Seattle is managing growth with density, how officials in Texas communities are tackling issues around sprawl by tying together disparate neighborhoods.

"At its core, the national real estate picture is actually a composite of what's happening in thousands of local communities nationwide. But over the past several years as local markets moved largely in unison, it has been all too easy, especially at the federal level, to turn conversations to the national housing market," said Zillow Chief Economist Dr. Stan Humphries. "Today, though, the trends and issues affecting Americans can't be summed up by rising or falling prices; they're much more complex and localized. So we're hitting the road, and digging deep into these issues in the neighborhoods where they're playing out. I can't wait for these discussions, and to report our findings back to policymakers, because the national housing conversation is, in the end, a local one."
