Applied Recognition Launches FotoTiger for Facebook

An example application is feeding a high school yearbook with tagged photos. "Imagine everyday high school students taking photos of their school buddies. With our face tagging, all students can be school photographers, tagging, indexing and adding photos to the school year book. This would allow every student to have a personalized year book," adds Ray Ganong, Co-CEO.

Applied Recognition has a number of applications in the works and is interested in partnerships to bring their products and technology to market. The company is currently focused on three verticals: Smart Phones, Cloud Vendors and Photo Managers. They are working with carriers that integrate these verticals into consumer offerings, as well as, a specialized implementation with a medical research organization, to be announced in the near future.

FotoTiger uses face recognition to index photos on a smart phone and when desired, users can post their photos to Facebook with all the tagging intact.  User privacy is respected by keeping all face recognition data local to the phone and under complete control of the user.  Simply put, it is done entirely on the phone with no requirements for server side support.

Applied Recognition's technology is adapted for optimum performance on mobile devices.  This includes sub-second response time for image scanning – regardless of pixel density.  Face signatures are tiny allowing for on-device storage of tens-of-thousands of known faces.  Thus, entire photo libraries with multi-gigabytes of images can be managed on a smartphone with or without network service.
