Most Consumers are Just One Click Away from Digital Disaster, Reveals New Survey from Trend Micro
The global leader in Internet security solutions announces the results of a consumer online security survey and the launch of Trend Micro™ Titanium™ 2012, empowering consumers to protect their digital lives
CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global leader in Internet security solutions, today announced new survey results revealing consumer behavior and sentiment around online security. According to the survey, 61 percent of consumers click on links while online that take them to unexpected places, making them vulnerable to cyberattacks that can lead to identity theft, theft of their financial records and banking information and loss of their digital belongings, including music, family photos, important documents and more. Sixty-six percent reported that they would be financially susceptible if their computers were accessed without their permission, and 67 percent said they would be devastated if they lost everything on their computer and/or connected device.

To empower consumers to protect every aspect of their digital lives, Trend Micro today launched Titanium 2012, a suite of online security products based in the cloud that offer robust threat protection in a user-friendly, "set-and-forget" user interface. Trend Micro provides additional protection with value-added products bundled with Trend Micro™ Titanium™ Maximum Security, including a tool that visually identifies safe and malicious links on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Titanium Maximum Security also offers mobile security for smart phones and tablets, including robust tools for Android™ devices with Trend Micro™ Mobile Security Personal Edition and file and folder synchronization and backup through Trend Micro™ SafeSync™ online service.
"The online threat landscape is changing, and it is critical for consumers and their families to arm themselves against these threats that put their digital lives at risk," said Carol Carpenter, executive general manager for the consumer business unit at Trend Micro. "The results of the survey highlight that many consumers are engaging in behaviors that leave them vulnerable online. Cybercriminals are becoming more sophisticated – not only are the security threats becoming more malicious and pervasive, they are also targeting consumers where they feel safe, such as on their mobile devices or talking to their friends on social networking sites. We are seeing as many 300,000 threats in a single day. Trend Micro is dedicated to helping consumers protect their digital lives, no matter where they're browsing or what device they're using."
Titanium 2012 is powered by the Trend Micro™ Smart Protection Network™ infrastructure, which has been ranked #1 in protection by three independent labs across 10 individual tests since September 2009. All versions of Titanium 2012 include Trend Micro™ Smart Surfing for Mac, the number one best-selling security product for Mac computers at retail in the US, and the first security product to market to provide support for Mac OS 10.7 or Lion. Titanium 2012 also includes enhancements to Titanium's Parental Controls, Behavioral Monitoring and Rootkit detection and removal. A "skin" feature also offers consumers the opportunity to completely customize the look of their digital life protection.
The consumer survey also showed that concerns over antivirus software slowing their computer down, or using too much memory, were among the top reasons consumers chose not to use security software. By offering its protection as a cloud-based solution, Titanium 2012 utilizes less than half the disk space and memory of other security products while providing up-to –the-minute protection and proactively stops threats before they reach the consumer.
Titanium 2012 is available in three packages, each designed to meet specific needs of families and individuals. The Titanium 2012 family can be purchased at the Trend Micro online store, through retail partners in select countries worldwide and at numerous retail locations online.
