Port Ambrose U.S. Coast Guard Draft Environmental Impact Statement Welcomed by Liberty
WASHINGTON, Dec. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The United States Maritime Administration and U.S. Coast Guard issued a 1,817 page Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the proposed Port Ambrose Project Deepwater Port Application this week. The DEIS, which is the result of substantial and ongoing interagency review of the environmental impacts associated with the construction and operation of the port, demonstrates that the project is needed, the location is safe, and the impacts to the environment are minimal.

"We are very pleased that the United States Coast Guard's Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) which was published this week for Port Ambrose supports the project design, location and fundamental need. The DEIS confirms the truth about this offshore natural gas supply project and confirms that our proposal constitutes no significant environmental or security risk to the region," said Roger Whelan, CEO of Liberty Natural Gas.
"The release of the DEIS is a major milestone and we are pleased that the Coast Guard and other agencies were able to clearly lay out the minimal environmental and safety impacts of the project in the document," added Whelan.
The in-depth analysis which led to the DEIS is the most substantive and detailed look at the Port Ambrose project to date. The DEIS includes input from the public and additional opportunities for public input will occur in January and over the next few months.
"We look forward to the next round of public hearings and to receiving additional input from the public about this important project. We are confident that once all the facts about the minimal impacts and many benefits that Port Ambrose will bring to the New York region become known, the public will support the project. We are proud to already have the support of both business and labor leaders, fishermen, as well as others across the region. These leaders realize that Port Ambrose will provide good paying jobs, investment in the local economy, and will help reduce and stabilize energy prices for New York area consumers during the peak winter and summer months," said Roger Whelan.
