Social Messaging App Chatous Instantly Connects People in Engaging Conversations; Reaches 2 Billion Messages Sent

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Chatous, a social messaging app that matches people in one-on-one conversations, today announced its users have sent over two billion messages through the platform. Over three million people worldwide have downloaded the app, with over one million signing up in the last three weeks. The company also announced it has previously raised $2.1 million in funding from General Catalyst, XSeed Capital, and Slow Ventures. As part of the funding, Kevin Colleran, venture partner at General Catalyst and one of Facebook's first 10 employees, joined Chatous's Board of Directors.

Chatous offers a balance between anonymity and identity. Users can write about themselves allowing them to connect over shared interests, but the app doesn't utilize a public profile or forum. Instead, users are matched in one-on-one conversations where they can express themselves candidly.

As attention spans continue to dwindle, many apps offer ephemeral content that disappears in a short amount of time. Chatous, on the other hand, keeps its users engaged in ongoing conversation and, on average, produces over 650 messages from each user. Collectively, Chatous users spend over 150 million minutes a month on the platform.

Chatous introduces a social dynamic that has the potential to address the inherent human need for connection.
