The New York Football Giants Kick Off New Season with Smarter Wi-Fi from Ruckus Wireless

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (NYSE: RKUS) announced today that the National Football League's (NFL's) New York Football Giants, Inc. has selected Ruckus as their Wi-Fi provider of choice, deploying a Smart Wi-Fi indoor and outdoor wireless network infrastructure at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center – the team's indoor/outdoor practice facility and football administration headquarters located in East Rutherford, NJ.

The Giants new wireless network infrastructure, installed this past summer before training camp began in late July by Ruckus BiG DOGs channel partner Goodman Networks, supported free Wi-Fi access for thousands of fans coming to open football practices during training camp, and is being used by Giants players, coaches, scouts, administrative staff and attending media throughout the complex.

Over 90 Ruckus ZoneFlex™ indoor and outdoor access points (APs) are deployed on the massive Giants facility, centrally managed with a Ruckus ZoneDirector™ 3000 controller, providing reliable, high-performance wireless coverage throughout the venue. The Giants facilities include: one full field indoor and three and a half outdoor regulation-size football fields; several temporary outdoor bleachers and indoor seating areas; numerous football classrooms; a weight room, locker room, and medical treatment facility; a broadcast production studio, where the Giants produce their own TV shows for local broadcast throughout the greater New York metro area; a multi-purpose auditorium, where Giants press conferences are held; the cafeteria; and the Giants team administrative offices.

All Giants players are issued tablet computers, which utilize a software application enabling the coaching staff to push training and instructional videos, and the team's playbook digitally to the players. The Giants new Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi network enables players to interact with each other and their coaches anywhere throughout the practice facilities and headquarters complex. "Today's players have grown up in the digital age, so moving from the thick three-ring binder playbook to a digital playbook was a natural progression," said Warren.

With their new Smart Wi-Fi network infrastructure, every morning when Giants players arrive, it only takes 15-20 minutes for them to download new training videos and updated playbook information uploaded by the coaching staff.

In addition, the NFL has implemented a league-wide Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system via an application developed specifically for use by the NFL. The new Giants Smart Wi-Fi network enables the team's athletic trainers and physicians to access players' medical records more effectively, as they can utilize player EMR data and images in real time, while seeing them as patients at the complex.

Giants administrative and executive staff are also now using the Smart Wi-Fi network instead of cellular for data use and offloading, which helps reduce team operating costs. Attending media as well have appreciated how much better the Wi-Fi coverage is when attending press briefings at the team's facility.

The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi network has enabled the Giants to effectively and reliably increase the number of concurrent clients per AP, to as many as 250 per AP, and moves as much as 209 GB of data traffic daily across the network. The network also interconnects with the MetLife Stadium Wi-Fi network, so fans, players and coaches don't have to do separate log-ins between the team's training facilities/headquarters and the Stadium, as they're automatically connected between the two.
