Makes the All IP Headend Possible; Streamlines DBS and IPTV by Integrating
Leading Advanced Video Encoding with RF Receivers and High Performance
Signal Processing
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Modulus Video, Inc. today
introduced the MRE2000 family -- an entirely new class of video
receiver/encoder systems that streamlines direct broadcast satellite (DBS)
and IPTV headend operations. The MRE2000 is the first headend solution to
incorporate, in a single 1RU chassis, direct RF signal input, demodulation,
decoding and signal processing with the world's most sophisticated MPEG-4
AVC high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) video encoding. The
result is an efficient television headend design with fewer components,
greater reliability, reduced cost and the best video quality.
Based entirely on standard internet protocols (IP) for signal
distribution, the MRE2000 advances the state of the art for efficient and
reliable television distribution by embracing the trend toward leveraging
widely accepted, mission critical networking technology.
The MRE2000 system can be ordered immediately. Shipments have already
begun, including nearly 100 MRE2000 systems delivered to a major U.S.
operation that is extending its distribution of local ATSC and NTSC
television channels. The MRE2000 family of products will be on display
April 16-19 at the National Association of Broadcasters convention, Las
Vegas Convention Center, Booth SU14909.
Modulus Video Chairman and CEO Bob Wilson said, "Increasing consumer
demand for HD programming, the move to IPTV and the need for more efficient
use of existing bandwidth are challenging operators to completely rethink
their television distribution strategies. Operators are looking for new and
sophisticated ways to streamline their headends; IP networks are at the
heart of that thinking. Signal reception and encoding are still the focal
point of any headend and the trailblazing MRE2000 is the first headend
solution made expressly for the IP-based TV world."
The MRE2000 family complements Modulus Video's ME2000 family of
dedicated HD/SD MPEG-4 AVC video encoders. The MRE2000 eliminates the need
for external demodulator, receiver and decoder systems by providing
built-in reception functions. The family will ultimately include products
that support the following:
-- Terrestrial RF NTSC
-- Digital Terrestrial ATSC and DVB-T
-- Satellite DVB-S/S2
-- Direct MPEG-2 from UDP/IP
The MRE2000 returns the input format to baseband video for real-time
encoding, enabling it to avoid typical input stream restrictions. The
MRE2000 encodes real-time MPEG-4 AVC HD or SD services at the lowest bit
rates available with outstanding image quality. Leveraging Modulus Video's
second generation MPEG-4 AVC encoding technology, the MRE2000 is built
around a Linux operating system that meshes seamlessly with IP-centric
environments and delivers flexibility, value and exceptional video quality
with a highly optimized compression toolset. The MRE2000 includes advanced
features such as ghost cancellation for pristine NTSC video, audio level
control and a low resolution proxy output stream for program guide,
picture-in-picture (PiP) and monitoring applications. The available
StatmuxIP(TM) capability delivers further efficiency improvements up to 40%
for multi-program transport stream (MPTS) applications such as direct to
home satellite.
Wilson said, "There is a reason the world's leading IPTV and satellite
operators are choosing Modulus Video over the 'traditional' vendors. Our
focus on solutions designed exclusively for today's IP-based 'everything on
demand at the highest quality' operating environment appeals to
forward-thinking decision makers."
