12-year-old McLean, Virginia Girl Writes and Illustrates The Lone Wolf Book
Child Author on Autism Spectrum Uses Wolf Allegory to Tell Own Tale of Being Bullied
MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A 12-year-old girl in McLean, Virginia – now home schooled due to bullying in Fairfax County schools – has written her own anti-bullying children's book on the topic.
The Lone Wolf, written and illustrated by Taylor Walker, is a tale about her own bullying struggles in school. Taylor shares her story by writing about a small, playful wolf who is bullied by other wolves but overcomes to find love and acceptance.
Taylor Walker's book is timely because so many parents are asking whether current school climates make students feel safe, allowing them to thrive academically and socially, and if young people are comfortable speaking up if they are being bullied.
Taylor's mother, Debra Walker, is so proud of Taylor's effort in creating The Lone Wolf that she is hosting a Howl Out Against Bullying Event, to take place on Saturday, November 22, 2014 in McLean, Virginia. Taylor Walker Enterprises is sponsoring the event as a friend of the PACER anti-bullying campaign: http://www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/runwalkroll/events-around-the-country.asp
"With the holidays approaching, it is time for schools, communities, districts, and states to take stock of current efforts to reduce and prevent bullying," said Ms. Walker. "Children who live a daily nightmare of being bullied often feel isolated and alone. We want these children to know they are not alone, that there are adults and other children out there who are allies against bullying. That's the wonderful thing about The Lone Wolf; and why I applaud Taylor for using her talents to take an anti-bullying stand."
