WASHINGTON, April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tomorrow, Wednesday April 19th, the U.S. Supreme Court—including Justice Gorsuch—will hear oral arguments in Trinity Lutheran Church v. Comer. The case could have a major impact on state constitutional questions involving the application of Missouri's "Blaine Amendment". The outcome will determine whether religious groups have the right to participate in state programs on the same footing as secular groups. 1st Amendment Partnership (1AP) President and religious freedom expert Tim Schultz will be available to discuss the case and likely outcomes before and after the arguments.
Dozens of amicus briefs siding with Trinity Lutheran come from faith-based groups and 1AP's partner organizations.
In advance of the oral argument, 1AP issued the following statement from President Tim Schultz:
"Denying Trinity Lutheran's access to government programs with secular purposes doesn't make the community safer or better. The government should get out of the way and allow faith-based groups to serve their communities as they have done for decades.
Faith-based charities, institutions, and businesses, like Trinity Lutheran and its preschool, contribute to their communities and benefit all Americans."
