2013 China Gelato Championship Concludes with Success

SHANGHAI, May 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2013 China Gelato Championship made its debut at 2013 Expo Finefood on April 1 and concluded successfully on April 3 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC).

The 2013 China Gelato Championship is organized by Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo, co-organized by Carpigiani and Fabbri, two leading gelato ingredient and equipment brands in Italy. What is worth mentioning is that the gelato championship is also strongly endorsed by the Embassy of Italy to the People's Republic of China, the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai and Masters of Italian Gelateria (MGI), the only authoritative gelato organization in Italy.

Thirty contenders presented their excellent gelato technique during the three-day competition, competing under the category of nut flavored gelato with Amarena marbling, strawberry sorbet and original creation. The competition area became the hot zone with the most foot traffic and frequent bursts of applause and cheering. The brilliant judging panel had gathered the heavyweights of the gelato industry bearing a purpose to pass on the gelato culture in China. They are Luciano Ferrari, master from Carpigiani Gelato University; Claudio Armin Caleffa, Technical Adviser from Fabbri; well-known food critic Lawrence Lo; and four gelato masters from Masters of Italian Gelateria (MGI). Furthermore, a public judging panel was established to reflect the public's preference regarding gelato's flavor and originality. Finally, the champion was Mr. Lu Yuanyuan, runner-up was Ms. Liu Yihan and third place went to Mr. Yu Yongxin after 3-day competition.

The competition gained strong support from the great companies and brands, including Carpigiani Shanghai Branch, Fabbri (Shanghai) Food Trading Co.,Ltd., IFI, Nestle Professional, Scotsman Ice Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Qingdao Haier Special Freezer Co., Ltd., and HOCRES (Shanghai) Industry Co., Ltd.

The China Gelato Championship has become the only professional competition within Mainland China to promote, share and celebrate gelato culture. Not only has the China Gelato Championship gained popularity among visitors, but it has started to attract industry leading players such as MEC3, Pregel, Stoelting, Elenka, Nissei and Taylor to crank up the volume of the ice cream sector, located at Hall E4 and E5.
