MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 28, 2012 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce the release of the 2013 Subaru Tribeca. The 2013 Tribeca is the SUV of choice for drivers who need 7-passenger seating capacity, want the confident all-weather multi-terrain handling of Subaru's outstanding symmetrical full-time All-Wheel Drive, and demand the exceptional range of standard equipment that makes every trip a pleasure.
Every Tribeca includes an outstanding range of features to make the total driving experience both fun and safe. These include a power tilt-and-slide glass sunroof, automatic dual-zone climate control with air filtration, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls, power-adjustable heated front seats with lumbar support, roof rails, driver and front passenger front and side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags with rollover sensor, power-adjustable heated body-colour door mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, multi-reflector halogen fog lights and more. In addition to offering a haven for seven passengers inside, Tribeca also offers a 1,591-kilogram towing capacity (with trailer brakes) for added versatility.
Tribeca is also available with optional Limited and Premier Packages. These are further equipped with a standard voice-activated blueconnect Bluetooth hands-free system that eliminates the need for a handheld cell phone, headset, earpiece, or in-vehicle mounted handset adapter while making or receiving phone calls as blueconnect automatically recognizes a paired Bluetooth phone when the vehicle is started. In this system, voice-activated Bluetooth technology displays incoming calls on the front monitor display. Calls can be accessed through the blueconnect interface located in the overhead console.
The Limited and Premier packages also feature 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels (7-spoke design), body-colour rocker panels, wheels arches and lower bumpers, raised-profile silver roof rails, High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, 10-speaker Harman Kardon system including subwoofer, leather seating surfaces with 2-position memory function on the driver's seat. The Premier Package also adds a DVD-based GPS navigation system.
Controlled Performance
Tribeca's 3.6-litre 24-valve DOHC SUBARU BOXER engine produces 247 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm and 256 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. The engine delivers excellent emission levels, good fuel efficiency in real world driving situations, and outstanding torque at low- to mid-range engine speeds. Owners will also be pleased to know that, unlike many competitors, Tribeca requires only regular-grade fuel.
The 3.6-litre engine features the Dual Active Valve Control System (Dual AVCS), variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust valves and is connected to a 5-speed direct control automatic transmission with Manual Mode and throttle blipping control. The result is quick gearshifts with minimal lag time and smooth, linear acceleration.
The shift control system uses the car speed and accelerator opening to determine available driving power while simultaneously calculating the optimum gear position for the road gradient. The total effect is fewer unnecessary gearshifts when climbing or descending grades and improved fuel economy. To further enhance smooth performance, Subaru's throttle blipping control matches the transmission to engine speed for a smoother, more controlled shift when selecting a lower gear.
Tribeca is equipped with the Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) Subaru symmetrical full-time All-Wheel Drive system. Enhancing the AWD are standard Vehicle Dynamics Control electronic stability control and four-wheel traction control system (TCS).
Subaru's Safety Leadership
The extensive roster of dynamic safety technology in the 2013 Tribeca includes standard 4-wheel disc brakes with Subaru's four-wheel, four-channel, four-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) electronic stability system, as well as symmetrical full-time All-Wheel Drive and Brake Assist. In emergency braking, drivers usually apply less pedal force than needed even if they react quickly. Brake Assist detects how quickly the driver has pressed the pedal, and if pedal velocity exceeds a certain level, Brake Assist immediately applies system hydraulic pressure up to the ABS limit to help increase braking effectiveness. The 2013 Tribeca also features a brake override feature that lowers engine output when both the brake and the throttle pedal are depressed simultaneously, ensuring a drama-free stop.
Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is also standard. The EBD system automatically adjusts front/rear brake proportioning based on vehicle load and is more effective than conventional brake proportioning valves.
In all Subaru models, the foundation for outstanding occupant protection is the advanced ring-shaped reinforcement frame unibody structure, with a front-end configuration that disperses collision energy in three directions. This design forms a series of rings around the passenger compartment, providing protection in a variety of collision types. High-tension steel side-impact door beams and impact-absorbing foam materials enhance side-impact safety performance.
Standard passive safety technology includes the Subaru advanced frontal air bag system (SRS), driver and front passenger seat-mounted side-impact air bags, and standard side curtain air bags with rollover sensor.
Whiplash-reducing front seats help reduce potential whiplash injury in a rear collision, while a collapsible brake pedal and impact-absorbing driver's footrest help reduce lower leg injury in a frontal collision.
