2014 Mazda6 Triumphs Over Ford Fusion in Mid-size Comparison
Superior design and value favor Mazda's popular sedan
LODI, N.J., Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Competition runs high in the class of mid-size sedans. Each car vies for the loyalty of families and individual drivers alike. Due to the plentiful options available in this popular category, Mazda of Lodi rendered a comparison of two cars contending for the honor to be called America's best-selling mid-size sedan.

The 2014 Mazda6 and 2014 Ford Fusion both represent a transition from the bland sedans of past years to the visually striking models of today. Sharing a body style with Ford's racing model, Fusion achieves a race-inspired exterior feel. Mazda6 delivers a comparable look with aggressive lines liken to a luxury sport sedan. Unfortunately for the Fusion, Ford seemed unable to apply the same level of inspiring design to the car's interior.
The cabin of the 2014 Ford Fusion is technologically impressive. However, it seems as if more resources were directed toward touchscreen technology than the material detailing. Ford's lack of attention to the tactile quality of materials leaves the Fusion's interior relatively disinteresting. In juxtaposition to the Fusion's interior, the cabin experience inside Mazda6 is indicative of the manufacturer's fine attention to detail. Soft-touch materials cover most interior surfaces as the sedan's luxury-inspired exterior styling is carried into the car's exceedingly comfortable interior.
Though style and comfort are important distinguishing factors in the class of mid-size sedans, fuel economy and value are equally significant. The 2014 Mazda6 gains a combined fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon with a standard SkyActiv engine. The inclusion of SkyActiv technology as a standard feature demonstrates a greater inherent value to Mazda6. Ford Fusion's base 2.5L engine only achieves a combined fuel economy of 26 miles per gallon. Drivers interested in higher fuel ratings would be required to upgrade their purchase to Ford's 28mpg EcoBoost engine.
The combination of appealing design, fuel efficiency, and value leads Mazda of Lodi to recommend the 2014 Mazda6 over the 2014 Ford Fusion.
