2014 Service & Leadership Symposium: Building Tomorrow
LUBBOCK, Texas, Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- When most people dream about tomorrow, they dream about something brighter and better than today. Tomorrow is filled with hopes and wishes – hopes for a better job, a better home, better health and a better life. Building the tomorrow we want starts with the decisions we make for today, for ourselves and for our community.
The 2014 Service & Leadership Symposium, hosted by the Volunteer Center of Lubbock, offers participants the opportunity to hear from individuals who have inspired change in their communities, to engage with local nonprofit agencies, to meet other leaders and volunteers and to participate in hands-on service projects.
This year participants will have the opportunity to hear from Jason Roberts of the "Better Block Project". Jason has been featured by The New York Times, Dwell Magazine, NPR and TEDX Austin and Oklahoma for his innovative revitalization of vacant city blocks. Participants will also hear from Susan Heath Hays, an expert in change efforts for schools, hospitals and nonprofits.
Praise for last year's symposium:
"I LOVED the speakers!! They were extremely motivational and helped my students think about why we do these projects. It also gave our students a chance to get together and brainstorm ways to help our community. After the speakers, the sky was the limit!" – Carleigh Cody, Shallowater High School
"The best part about this event is that it gets a group of people together who might normally never cross paths. Everyone involved has a sincere desire to serve the Lubbock community, and I was personally inspired by that." – Amy Huff, Texas Tech PEGASUS
