LONGMONT, Colo., Jan. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Six tech-savvy entrepreneurs have been accepted into the third cohort of the Voqal Fellowship, which provides the resources needed to bring early-stage ideas to life.

"Voqal is committed to investing in a new generation of social entrepreneurs," said Voqal President and CEO John Schwartz. "We are proud to welcome the latest class of Voqal Fellows and look forward to helping them launch their ideas for social change."

The 2016 Voqal Fellows will receive a $30,000 stipend and mentoring in order to build out their ideas over the course of six months. They include Marquis Cabrera (RateMyFosterHome.Com), Andrea Hart (City Bureau Presents: The Community Data Project), Bhavik Lathia (Cellphone-First Citizen Mobilization Tool), Hlee Lee-Kron (Mix It Up: Diversity in the Workplace), Eric Shih (Spendrise) and Laurel Wamsley (How to Save Your Own City Podcast).

The latest class joins a growing legacy of Voqal fellows who have launched technologies making a difference in the world. Yongjun Heo, a member of the 2012 class, credits Voqal with helping bring to life Farepath, a technology-based platform for increasing food donations.

"The fellowship was crucial," he said. "Farepath wouldn't have happened without it."

Voqal launched the fellowship in 2012 to build a pipeline of entrepreneurs committed to social justice and the public good. Designed to further progressive, social justice-oriented causes, the fellowship is part of Voqal's overall efforts to advance social inequity. Read more at www.voqal.org/voqal-fellowship.
