San Jose Firefighters, Local 230 offered the City a proposal that includes pay cuts, higher health care premiums, higher co-pays and other concessions that will save the City of San Jose millions of dollars and keep these firefighters protecting San Jose residents and businesses. The concessions made by the San Jose firefighters were rejected by the City. The firefighter concessions were the same as what the San Jose Police Officers Association made, which were accepted by City Administration.
The loss of these firefighters and closure of 4 fire engines and one fire truck will increase emergency response times and put lives and property at greater risk. It is a sad day for these fine young men and women and a sadder day for the City of San Jose.
