51,857 New Mexicans Sign Up for Coverage Through beWellnm
New Mexicans May Still Be Eligible to Enroll During Special Enrollment Periods
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Feb. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Following the final Open Enrollment deadline, 51,857 New Mexicans selected a plan or were automatically re-enrolled in health coverage through beWellnm as of Feb. 15, 2015, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Once these individuals pay their first premium, they will have coverage starting March 1, 2015.
"We set out at the start of this Open Enrollment Period to enroll 50,000 New Mexicans through beWellnm, and we are so pleased 51,857 New Mexicans shopped with us this year and were able to access high-quality, affordable coverage," said Amy Dowd, beWellnm's CEO. "Thank you to our many outreach and enrollment partners and agents and brokers across the state who put in countless hours to provide assistance to New Mexicans looking to enroll."
Open Enrollment may have ended, but New Mexicans may still have options to enroll in health coverage through beWellnm.
- Special Enrollment Period Through Sunday, Feb. 22: For consumers who started their application by Feb. 15, but were unable to complete their application or selection, they may be able to get covered in 2015 if one of these applies:
- The consumer tried to enroll in health coverage by Feb. 15, but did not complete the application because of an issue with HealthCare.gov or the Marketplace Call Center that delayed the application.
- The consumer mailed a paper application for Marketplace coverage by Feb. 15, 2015 and received a notice telling you you're still able to complete your enrollment in Marketplace coverage.
If this applies to a consumer, they may be able to continue enrolling, but this opportunity will only be available until Sunday, Feb. 22. New Mexicans are urged to enroll in coverage as soon as possible. To complete an application, New Mexicans can log in to your Marketplace account on HealthCare.gov, or contact the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 to complete enrollment over the phone.
- Special Enrollment Year Round: New Mexicans may be eligible to sign up for health coverage outside of Open Enrollment through certain "qualifying life events." These may include but are not limited to getting married, having a baby, or losing job-based health insurance and consumers have 60 days following this change in family status. Additionally, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollments can happen at any time, all year. Members of federally recognized tribes can also enroll in coverage any time of year. Visit our website to learn if you qualify.
"If New Mexicans believe they may still be eligible to enroll in health coverage, we encourage them to visit our website or contact our call center," said Dowd. "beWellnm is a health coverage resource for New Mexicans year-round, not just during Open Enrollment."
