52,358 New Mexicans Sign Up for Coverage Through beWellnm
beWellnm attracts more than 27,000 new consumers to enroll
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- beWellnm announced today that 52,358 New Mexicans selected a plan or were automatically re-enrolled in health coverage through beWellnm as of Feb. 22, 2015, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In New Mexico, 51 percent of consumers (approximately 26,702) who selected a plan were new to the exchange, and 49 percent were re-enrollees. Nearly half (49 percent) of the active re-enrollees switched their plans from the previous year. Similar trends were seen on the national level with active and engaged consumers using healthcare.gov.
"As a State-Based Exchange, we are able to offer New Mexicans the tools and education that they need to make this important decision and select the right plan for their family," said Amy Dowd, beWellnm's CEO. "Nationally, states that provide local outreach and enrollment services see higher enrollment results than states that don't, and this is certainly the case here in New Mexico."
In New Mexico, 76 percent of consumers who selected a plan were eligible for financial assistance. For those who qualified, the average tax credit reduced premium payments by 61 percent and nearly half of consumers (49 percent) paid $100 or less for monthly premiums after the tax credit.
"Providing New Mexicans with affordable health coverage is one of the goals of our state exchange," said Dowd. "With more than 52,000 New Mexicans enrolling, I am confident that the Exchange is working for New Mexico."
A special enrollment will be available March 15-April 30 for consumers who did not sign up for health coverage in 2014 and have paid the Individual Shared Responsibility Payment with their 2014 tax return. Visit beWellnm.com to learn more and find in-person assistance.
