5K Walk To Benefit Shriners Hospitals For Children(R)- Boston, IAFF Burn Foundation and Boston Fire Fighters Local 718 Burn Foundation

BOSTON, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Firefighters from across New England will join burn survivors and supporters to lace up their sneakers to raise burn prevention awareness and to raise funds to  support those who have been affected by burn injury at the first annual New England Walk for Burn Awareness. This event will held on Sunday, May 23rd at 10:00am at Castle Island in South Boston.

Shriners Hospitals for Children® - Boston and the International Association of Fire Fighters Burn Foundation know firsthand the emotional and physical harm that burn injuries cause, and the important role education and awareness can play in preventing burn injuries. The American Burn Association estimates that fire and burn injuries are the second leading cause of accidental death in children ages one to four, and the third leading cause of injury and death for those ages one to eighteen. Each year in the U.S. more than 500,000 people suffer burn injuries.

The New England Walk for Burn Awareness will be a fun family day that will include a scenic 5K walk along the water, local celebrities, Shriners clowns, entertainment, fire trucks and fun surprises.

The Walk fee is $25 and includes a tee shirt and snacks. Children under 12 are free but must still register. Families are invited to participate and form teams. Pre-registration is encouraged. Once registered, participants will be able to build a personal fundraising page. Prizes will be awarded for top teams and fundraisers!
