A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation Partners with DonorsChoose.org to Fund 231 D.C. Classroom Projects
Foundation pledges to fund additional projects as school year kicks off
WASHINGTON, Aug. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation surprised hundreds of teachers by instantaneously funding all current Washington, D.C., classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. This investment provides everything from graphing calculators to art materials to read-along libraries for local classrooms. In addition to the current requests, the Foundation will match donations to new D.C. projects submitted on DonorsChoose.org starting today.
"The Clark Foundation is committed to helping all students in the Washington community prepare for success in school – and every student and teacher should benefit from having the classroom resources they need to thrive," said Joe Del Guercio, president and CEO of the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation. "In partnership with the District, nonprofits, philanthropic peers and individuals, we can all make a difference. We're honored to extend this gesture of gratitude and hope the funding match will inspire other donors to support D.C.'s schools."
By flash funding all 231 teacher requests in Washington, today's contribution will impact 90 public schools and 18,538 students as they start off the new school year.
"On behalf of our students and teachers, I want to thank the Clark Foundation for its leadership and longstanding commitment to education in our city," said Muriel Bowser, Mayor of the District of Columbia. "This partnership between the Foundation and DonorsChoose.org will help our educators make every day count and is an exciting way to kick off the new school year."
The A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation is the family foundation of the late A. James Clark, former head of Clark Construction Group, and his wife, Alice B. Clark. The Foundation seeks out grantees that build concrete connections between effort and opportunity, focusing its investments in four core areas: engineering studies, DC education, DC community and veterans initiatives.
"The Foundation believes there is no greater way to help children achieve than through a quality education. Current organizations we invest in provide teacher training, early childhood education programs and college access supports," said Danielle Hamberger, Director of DC Education Initiatives at the Clark Foundation. "We are proud to partner with DonorsChoose.org to honor teachers and students including Ms. Lucero at Dunbar High School, whose classroom will have new motion sensors to collect data for physics experiments to better prepare students in our technology-driven world."

About DonorsChoose.org.
Founded in 2000 by a Bronx history teacher, DonorsChoose.org has raised more than $727 million for America's classrooms. Teachers come to DonorsChoose.org to request the materials and experiences they need most for their classrooms, and donors give to the projects that inspire them. To date, 3 million people and partners have funded 1.2 million projects on the site, reaching 29 million students and making DonorsChoose.org the leading platform for supporting U.S. public schools. DonorsChoose.org is the only crowdfunding platform that vets each request, delivers materials directly to schools, and captures the impact of every funded project with photos, thank yous, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. In 2014, DonorsChoose.org made the top 10 of Fast Company's list of the World's Most Innovative Companies, the first time a charity has received such recognition.
