SEATTLE, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A Place for Mom® (APFM), the nation's largest senior living referral service, has announced the launch of its first-ever scholarship to aid in the training and education of future senior living industry leaders in the area of gerontology. According to the Administration on Aging, nearly a quarter of Americans will be age 65 or older by 2050, creating a substantial need for qualified workers in the sector.
The scholarship is open to anyone who is currently pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree, or graduate-level studies in the fields of gerontology, medicine, nursing, or sociology. Applicants will be asked to submit a letter of introduction with work history, their reasons for seeking a degree, and why they believe they are a good candidate for the scholarship.
Additionally, applicants will be asked to submit an essay on the challenges Americans will face as more and more people age, commonly referred to as the "silver tsunami." In recognition of their work and commitment to the field, five winners will each receive $1,000 toward their studies. Winners will be selected and announced on September 13, 2013.
