Abekas Deploys First 4K Mira at Golf Channel Multi-channel Ultra HD Mira drives video wall content in the new Arnold Palmer studio
MENLO PARK, Calif., April 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Abekas announced today the first 4K Ultra HD Mira Production Server has been deployed by Golf Channel. The server feeds two separate panoramic video walls in the brand new Arnold Palmer Studio at their facility in Orlando, FL. The signature look of the "Morning Drive" program is accomplished by linking twenty 90-inch and ten 52-inch monitors to create golf course morning vistas. The video wall is fed by a 4K Ultra HD Mira Production Server to make viewers feel like the "Morning Drive" is broadcasting from just inside the picture windows of their local clubhouse.
"It was clear we needed a much higher resolution video playback and display solution to achieve our vision," says Ken Botelho, Senior Director Engineering, the Golf Channel. "I'm sure we could not have done this project without Mira."
To add realism to the backdrop, 4K content is captured from different courses throughout the day and even through different weather conditions. For example, if the broadcast is airing during a sunny afternoon, a sunny shot can be called up and displayed.
Clips are edited and then imported into Mira via the Media File Import tool. The server creates a single 4K media clip which is distributed across the eight separate channels via baseband, real-time playback. The clips are then triggered via an interface to the switcher.
The Abekas Mira Quad-Viewer monitor output provides scaled-down 4K video onto a single HD-SDI picture monitor, making 4K monitoring easier and substantially less expensive in the control room.
"Golf Channel is a leader in HD broadcasting and we're pleased to play a part in delivering their vision," says Junaid Sheikh, CEO of Abekas. "Mira has been designed to be resolution-independent and offer the flexibility that broadcasters need to address new broadcast opportunities."
