ABF Commitment to Supply Chain Sustainability Lauded by Inbound Logistics
FORT SMITH, Ark., July 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ABF® was cited by Inbound Logistics as a "Green 75 Supply Chain Partner." The magazine's annual list of supply chain partners committed to sustainability appears in a special "Supply Chain Sustainability" issue. ABF appears on the list for the second consecutive year.
"Our editors chose 75 companies in several categories of logistics service provider — 3PLs, truckers, ports, forklifts, etc. — that they determined are truly 'walking the walk' when it comes to commitment to supply chain sustainability. I am happy to say that ABF was chosen as one of this year's G75," said Felecia Stratton, Inbound Logistics editor.
"ABF considers effective supply chain sustainability a corporate priority," said ABF President and Chief Executive Officer Wes Kemp. "It is gratifying to see our efforts once again recognized by the editors of Inbound Logistics magazine."
"ABF continues to pursue environmental innovations and practices designed to enhance environmental performance and efficiency," Mr. Kemp continued. "For example, ABF limits its trucks to a top speed of 62 mph and prohibits discretionary engine idling. As a result, every ABF truck emits significantly fewer tons of carbon dioxide. Additionally, ABF has reduced fuel consumption and enhanced operational efficiency through best practices that include a strictly followed equipment maintenance and replacement program."
ABF is an advocate of sustainability through its participation in such groups as Cleaner Safer Trucking and SmartWay. Cleaner Safer Trucking is a coalition interested in improving trucking safety, productivity and environmental sustainability through sensible changes to vehicle size and weight regulations. SmartWay is a voluntary partnership between the Environmental Protection Agency and various freight industry sectors for fuel efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
