Acano Launches World's First 'Dual Home' Video Technology
Dramatically improves user experience, interoperability with Skype for Business/Lync
LONDON and ORLANDO, Fla., June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Acano, a fast-growing technology company with a fresh perspective on audio, web and video conferencing, today announced the addition of 'dual home' conferencing to its communications platform. The technology dramatically improves the experience of Skype for Business/ Lync (S4B) meetings that include other video conferencing participants, creating a consistent, intuitive experience for users without layout changes or restrictions. Acano has published the Microsoft S4B/Lync Integration Architecture White Paper, which covers the 'dual home' technology. The company will showcase the server technology at InfoComm 2015 in Orlando, Florida.
"This advancement offers great improvements in user experience," said Torkel Mellingen, Acano's head of design. "Our customers are empowered to choose the video conferencing technology that works best for them, not the other way around."
Previously, when video conferencing users connect via different platforms, a "dominant" platform takes over, forcing users of other platforms to adjust to a conferencing experience that is unfamiliar to them. For example, when a S4B user connects with a standards-based video system, like SIP or H.323, non-S4B users are required to adjust to a different video layout and reduced functionality.
Acano's 'dual home' technology preserves each users' chosen experience, while also allowing users to see a list of call participants and share screens, features that are often restricted under traditional video integration. Alternate integration solutions require the installation of as many as five products, but fail to achieve a comparable level of feature functionality.
As the use of standards-based video platforms increases, bridging S4B users with non-S4B users is a growing challenge for many organizations. Acano's technology allows organizations to leverage their existing investments in infrastructure, while offering the flexibility to connect everyone.
