Accelera Solutions Achieves the First ATO for Cloud-based Active Directory Service Within the DOD
CHARLESTON, S.C. and FAIRFAX, Va., May 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Accelera Solutions, Inc., an industry leader in Cloud, Mobility, and Virtualization solutions announced today they have achieved a Department of Navy (DON) Authorization to Operate (ATO) accreditation for the Dedicated Active Directory Forest (DADF) enclave. The ATO was achieved in conjunction with the Navy Reserve Force, Space and Naval Warfare Command (SPAWAR) and other partners.
DADF delivers a scalable and highly available Federated Identity infrastructure based on Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) that provides approximately 55,000 Navy Reservists seamless access via their Common Access Cards (CACs) to applications hosted in Microsoft Office 365. DADF represents the first and only cloud-based Active Directory service that is fully accredited with the Department of Defense (DoD). The DADF architecture is a critical component required for linking the DoD's first Microsoft Office 365 environment with the United States Navy's unified directory services.

An agency grants an ATO according to a risk-based framework that analyzes how a vendor has implemented the security controls within their IT environment. It is only after an exhaustive security assessment that the head of an agency (or their designee) can grant an Authorization to Operate (ATO).
